Bollywood Dance with Jinnie De & Anisha Mistry
Jinnie De & Anisha Mistry joined Reg & Jake to talk about the contemporary expression of Bollywood dance in Australia.
- Jinnie De
Jinnie De’s first guru was her mother Manjusha. While Manjusha continued her traditional and creative styles, Jinnie is now steering ahead with the Contemporary Bollywood styles with great success.
Trained in the classical Odissi and contemporary Hip-Hop styles, she incorporates both in her choreography resulting in an extremely rich form of dance. Prior to arriving in Australia, Jinnie learnt Kathak in India from the age of four.
Now running Nupur Dance Group, Jinnie has performed with the likes AR Rahman, Bally Sagoo, Apache Indian and Jay Sean.
- Anisha Mistry
Anisha Mistry has been a student of Bollywood dance since the age of 10 when she was dragged to practice by her parents as part of her extra-curricular activities. Soon, her unwillingness to attend weekly class transformed into a love of the dance form, and it became her key link to her Indian background, having previously struggled with developing an identity that seamlessly blended the South Asian and Western influences in her life.
